• NARI Permitting Article

Chris Landis and Ethan Landis, along with Joe Normandy, the Executive Director of the NARI Metro DC Chapter, had a very successful meeting on June 7, 2016 with Mayor Muriel Bowser to hear and discuss our concerns about applying for building permits at DCRA. Mayor Bowser was joined at the meeting by her Director of Human Resources, Ventris Gibson, and her Director of Economic Development, Brian Kenner. Everyone, particularly the Mayor, seemed genuinely engaged and concerned. They asked a lot of questions and took notes. They all expressed their appreciation for us coming in and presenting the greater remodeler community’s concerns in such a professionally and thoroughly manor. The Mayor said she would personally visit the DCRA and “camp out” for periods of time to get a firsthand experience as to the challenges and concerns confronting DCRA with respect to permitting. Word has it she’s planning on the third or fourth week of August.

We presented the Mayor with seven letters from the following contractors who work in the District:

    • Landis Architects/Builders

    • Merrick Design & Build

    • Grossmueller’s Design

    • Glickman Design Build

    • Noel Design Build

    • Smith, Thomas & Smith

    • The Levine Group Architects & Builders

At the end of the meeting, the Mayor said she and her team are ready to work on the issues we discussed and she’ll invite us back for a follow up. We expect the follow up meeting to be held after her visit to the DCRA. Thanks to everyone for helping to prepare for this meeting and getting the Mayor’s attention on this important issue to all of us in the DC area design and construction community. We will plan to send a follow up report no later than mid-September.
